I think one of the things I do best is highlight who a person really is. It doesn’t take me long to feel their energy and just push them a little bit to shine in front of the camera. Some folks require a little extra coercing, so we talk about things that make their eyes light up a little bit more and make their smile a little more genuine – or the ones who want more of the high-fashion, model, fierce look – I give them different directions and make them feel like the TOTAL BADASS that they are…
Some folks, though… Some folks don’t really require a lot of direction at all. They know how to work the camera. They know how to pose in a flattering way. They know which direction to look… It’s innate. Aliah is one of these girls. She just shines in front of the camera… I even commented “Well you don’t need much direction at all!” To which she responded “I watched a lot of Top Model growing up.” LOL! Same – Well, not growing up because I’m pretty sure I was in my twenties when I was watching that show, but I do love it.
For Aliah’s session, we did it in two parts. Part one we shot downtown Springfield. We just drove around and found some cool spots to shoot. We got some shots with her sisters and her BFF as well, which I loved! For part two, we wanted to shoot at the Nashville Wave Pool because Aliah is a lifeguard there and we knew we could get some cool shots before the pool opened to the public. The sun was BRIGHT, but it was sort of perfect. I love the contrast between the two sessions.
Thanks for joining my team this year, Aliah! And for choosing ME to document your senior year of high school. I love doing what I do, and I love meeting new folks and having all this fierceness in front of my camera!!
